Buying glass - things to consider
Measuring the radius of a curved edge on a glass tabletop can be done easily using the following methods:
1. Using a Ruler and Square Paper (Quick Method)
- Place a piece of graph paper under the curved corner.
- Align the straight edges of the glass with the grid lines.
- Mark where the curve starts along both edges.
- Measure the distance from the mark to the point where the straight edges meet (this is the radius).
2. Using a Compass or Circle Template
- If you have a large compass, set it to different radius sizes and match it to the curve.
- You can also use a circle template or an object (like a lid) that matches the curve.
3. Using a Flexible Tape or String
- Place a flexible measuring tape or string along the curve.
- Mark the start and end of the curve on the string.
- Lay the string flat and measure the straight-line distance from start to end—this helps estimate the radius.
4. Using a Radius Gauge
- A radius gauge (commonly used in metalworking or woodworking) can be placed against the curve to find the matching size.
