Usable Space In the Gem Range

What do we mean by ‘usable space’

Something we often get asked about is the ‘usable space’ of our products. This is a valid question that people can sometimes neglect to consider. Essentially what people mean by ‘usable space’ is how much of the interior space is actually usable. For instance, the external dimensions of a GEM Separate glass Hi-Fi stand measures 600x 400mm (or 500 for the deep) however this does not take into account the legs of the product which reduces the usable space by 110mm. This leaves the interior width of usable space measuring 490mm x 400mm. We advertise a 485mm width (19" American components are 482.5mm wide) and a little tolerance.

The Cinema range is similar in that 110mm needs taking from the glass width, for a 5 pole version (to give the centre speaker use, and then for the component width, 38.1mm for the 1.5" dividing column diameter. So on an 1120x500 unit this is 1010mm for the centre speaker, and 971.9/2 to get the component spacings...of 486mm, again accommodating the largest 19" and smaller European equipment products.

The usable width of your product is important to consider. If you fail to accurately take this into account you could end up with a stand that won't hold your equipment.
